Paul was
Nigel Worthington's only summer signing when he joined the Canaries on July 3
and immediately joined his new colleagues for the start of pre-season training.
Paul is a fully committed defender who operates on the left and loves to get
forward. Although born in Barnsley he started his career as a trainee at
Sunderland. Due to the form of Black Cats left-back Michael Gray, Paul found
first team opportunities an impossibility at the Stadium of Light and
subsequently went on loan to Scarborough and Hartlepool in pursuit of first team
experience.
He went on to make 29 appearances for Scarborough and five for Hartlepool, he
also marked his debut at the Victoria Ground with a goal against Peterborough
United. Paul's tour of the North East then took him to Feethams where he chalked
over 100 appearances for Darlington before stepping up in standard and trying
his luck with the Canaries.
During his time at Darlington he captained the Quakers and became a firm
favourite with the home fans, once out of contract his departure was more of a
disappointment rather than a shock to the Darlington faithful.
His arrival at Carrow Road will offer both cover and competition for the
left-back slot as Nigel Worthington looks to increase his options in every
position for the forthcoming campaign.
