The
2001-2002 campaign started well for Zema Abbey as he won the fight to partner
Iwan Roberts in the Canary attack.
An excellent pre-season saw Zema in the starting eleven ahead of fellow forwards
Alex Notman, Paul McVeigh and new signing Marc Libbra. A cracking 20-yard finish
at home to Nottingham Forest in early September capped off some very good
all-round displays from the former Cambridge United frontman.
The Canaries were steaming up the first division table and Zema's early season
form was proving a pivotal part of the side's success. Disaster then struck in
the Canaries' following match at Rotherham as Zema departed Millmoor having
damaged both his cruciate ligaments and his medial ligaments, an injury which
saw him miss the entire 2001-2002 campaign.
He has now recovered and even managed to make a second-half substitute
appearance in the reserves' final game of the season. Having recovered from
injury the powerful striker now faces another tough battle as he aims to fight
it out for a place in Nigel Worthington's side for the 2002-2003 season.
