Just as
night follows day, Craig Fleming put in yet another great season in the
Canaries' defence last season and played a major part in the team's progress to
the verge of the Premiership. Along with 'Player of the Year', Gary Holt, Craig
was ever-present and the away match at Wolves in March marked his 200th
appearance for the club.
He formed an excellent partnership at the heart of the defence with Malky Mackay
and his tackling, distribution and commitment continued to go from strength to
strength.
Now one of the squad's more experienced players, Craig is extremely well thought
of by the City management team and his experience and reliability have certainly
helped in the development of the likes of Adam Drury and Darren Kenton.
Having joined the Club back in the summer of 1997 from Oldham Athletic for a fee
of £600,000 Craig has managed to notch seven goals during his time at Carrow
Road and the only disappointment for the classy defender is that he was unable
to add to that tally during the 2001-2002 campaign.
As the Canaries prepare for the new season, all at Carrow Road will be hoping
that Craig and Malky can go on and repeat their form of last season, as two
rock-solid centre backs will hopefully provide the basis for a second assault on
the Premiership.
