Club Physio Keith Creamer Retires

17 May, 2003

By the end of this month 2nd physio Keith Creamer would have probably left the club. He has been at the club for 17 years and has been an excellent servant for the club, tending to all the players needs from the first team all the way down to the youth.

And when yellowarmy.co.uk went to meet him, it was obvious to see that he was a genuinely nice bloke. While we were there we were lucky enough to get a unique snap of the man himself!

New Kit and Sponsors Now Released!

8 May, 2003

Norwich City have announced their new sponsors for the next three years: Proton and Lotus. The Club have confirmed that the deal is worth a 7 figure sum, which is the biggest deal in the club's history. The Club also released the new kits, with Proton sponsoring the home kit and Lotus sponsoring the "racing green" away kit, which will definitely be worn on 7 occasions next season.

The kit will be available in the club shops in mid July, for more info on this keep looking on this page nearer the time.

Below are some pictures of the home kit, taken from www.pinkun.com and www.canaries.co.uk

Yellowarmy.co.uk Visit Colney!

During Easter the team from yellowarmy.co.uk took time out to visit the Club's training ground at Colney. Luckily the team took part in a full and quite strenuous training session outdoors and we were able to get some photos of our day out at Colney. We were even lucky enough to get some of the players advertising our website!

Reserves Round-Up

By Nick Wright

A goal two minutes from time secured a win for Oxford United and Cities second consecutive reserve defeat. The game marked the return of Phil Mulryne and Craig Fleming from injury lay offs. They both got around 60 minutes play under their belts, which is a promising sign for Canaries fans.

It was an unusual City side which took to the field at Oxfords Court Place Farm training ground, including no less than 10 players with first team experience. It was Fleming who came closest to scoring for Norwich, his header went just wide. Oxford defender Chris Hackett then almost put through his own net with an attempted header clearance, but unfortunately for Norwich, it rebounded off the woodwork.

The second half saw Norwich again start brightly, with Ian Henderson, playing in an unfamiliar left wing role, looking a threat. However, the ruff playing surface stopped Norwich playing their passing game and putting pressure on the home teams goal. However with the game looking to go for a 0-0 draw, Oxford Striker Mark De Bolla fired in a goal in the 88th minute. The Oxford man capitalised on a mix up in the City defence and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

This was a disappointing result but the match brought cheer for the City fans with the news that Notman, Mulryne and Fleming all got through 60 minutes. However it is unlikely that we will see Notman in the first team frame again this season, But Mulryne and Fleming should be back in a couple of weeks. Of the other players, Ian Henderson looked a threat on the left wing which could give Worthington a few extra options with the departures of Llewellyn and Heckingbottom imminent. The other players were unremarkable, but this is understandable on a ruff playing surface.

 Line Up

Crichton, Briggs, Heckingbottom, Crane, Fleming (Tyrie 60), Emblen, Mulryne (Smith 65), Notman (Batt 65), Roberts, Nielsen, Henderson.

Heckingbottom and Llewellyn Given Free Transfers

8 March, 2003

Nigel Worthington today confirmed that both Paul Heckingbottom and Chris Llewellyn have been made available for free transfers. The thinking behind this is "to let the two lads concerned to get on with their careers in a positive way", another reason of course is to lighten the financial burden on the club.

Llewellyn is currently on loan at Bristol Rovers and he signed professional terms for City in 1999 but for the last couple of seasons he has found it hard to get a place in the team.

Heckingbottom only joined the club on a free transfer in August last year from Darlington and since then has only made seven starts for the Canaries.

Reserves Round-Up

By Nick Wright

Norwich City Reserves suffered only their second defeat of the season yesterday when they went down by the only goal of the game against Millwall. The match also saw another step for Alex Notman's road back to fitness. He played for the whole of the first half yesterday, before being substituted at half time. The Millwall side saw two first teamers play, Tim Cahill and Charlie Hearne, whilst City only had Notman who has seen extensive first team action.

In a fairly even first half, neither side looked like scoring. However it was City who came closest to scoring. A Norwich shot came in which the Millwall keeper parried to the waiting Ryan Jarvis, whose shot agonisingly hit the cross bar. However it was soon after this when Millwall grabbed the only goal of the game. Greg Cranes back header to Osbourne fell short, allowing striker Moses Ashikodi head the ball home.

The second half saw City see a little more of the ball, although they couldn’t make the possession count. A rather dull match was almost made a little livelier in the dying moments. Ian Henderson collected a cross in area with only the keeper to beat but his shot was well saved by Harper in the Lions goal.

From this performance you could see the Briggs still hasn’t found the form, which saw him pick up Player Of The Year award at Stockport last season. Perhaps he will find it once he has settled in over the summer. Shackell looked solid at the back and didn’t put a foot wrong. Henderson and Jarvis made themselves known to the Millwall defenders but failed to cause any damage. In the centre of the park, Sinclair had a good, solid, battling game. This was a match in which Cities youngsters acquitted themselves well, but failed to produce.

Line Up

Osbourne, Briggs, Batt (Crow 75), Sinclair, Shackell, Crane, Notman (Blackburn 45), Henderson, Jarvis, Emblen, Smith (Willis 70).

David Rocastle Remembered Cancer Research

31 March, 2003

Today, March 31st, is the second anniversary of the passing away
of one of English footballs best loved players - David "Rocky"
Rocastle. Rocky played for Arsenal, Leeds, Manchester City,
Chelsea, Norwich City and Hull City, earning 14 England caps and
winning two league championships. As a player Rocky will be
remembered for his elegance and flair, as well his indomitable spirit
and resolute tackling. As a man he will be remembered as humble,
courteous and friendly - a true gentleman and man of the people. He
died aged just thirty three years, and was survived by his wife and
three children. Rocky was struck down by non-Hodgkins
lymphoma, an aggressive cancer of the lymphatic system.

Just a few days after Rocky’s death, Arsenal fan Neil Donovan
founded the David Rocastle Remembered cancer reserch team.
The team aims to commemorate David Rocastle by participating in
the Grid.org cancer research project. This is a distributed
computing project – where millions of private PC users contribute
their computers’ idle processing powerto perfoming billions of
chemical calculations designed to short-list chemicals for future
labaoratory research. The research is being conducted by the
Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford in England
(http://www.ox.ac.uk/) and the National Foundation for Cancer
Research in the US (http://www.nfcr.org/).

Most of us only use a tiny fraction of our PC's processing power,
the rest of it just goes to waste By harnessing the unused power
of home and office PCs the researchers are able to perform
calculations way beyond the scope of even the biggest
supercomputers. The program uses sophisticted computational
chemical modelling techniques to predict how various target
proteins will react with various molecules. Hundreds of millions of
molecules can be "tested" using the program, without the need for
expensive laboratory work. The software to do this is free, easy to
install, and runs in the background without disrupting your normal
use of your computer in the slightest. It can even be set to run only
as a screen-saver.

The team has over 250 members, football fans from all over the
world. To date the team has donated more nearly sixty years of
vital processing time to the project, the equivalent of running this
program on a single PC until past 2063. We welcome all new
members, so put your PC's wasted power to good use and help us
commemorate Rocky.

On the team's home-page at Arsenal-World (http://www.arsenal-
world.co.uk/news/loadsngl.asp?CID=ED91) you can find out more
about Rocky, the team, the Grid.org cancer research project and
how you can get involved.

Canaries Bid For Bromby

22 March, 2003

Nigel Worthington has told Sheffield Wednesday to name their price for Leigh Bromby, currently on-loan at Carrow Road. Worthy has said he has been so impressed with his performances for Norwich that he would like to sign him on-loan until the end of this season and then sign him permanently.

Worthington has offered Owls Boss Chris Turner a choice of four players who he would be able to take to Wednesday on-loan as a swap-deal until the end of the season, while Wednesday will be thinking over a price for centre-back Bromby.

Chris Turner has confirmed that one of the players he has been offered on-loan is David Nielsen, who has struggled to score for a few months. Turner said: "He is a quick and powerful striker who has done well at Grimsby and Norwich. We'll have to decide next week whether he's the player for us on loan."

He's who the other three players could be: Neil Emblen, Keith Briggs, Paul Heckingbottom or even Ian Henderson. All of these players have not featured in the first team regularly for a while now.

Steeno Could Quit City

17 March, 2003

He scored a 30-yard thunderbolt yesterday but Steen Nedergaard's future may not lie at Carrow Road. The versatile player has said that he has been ongoing contract talks since December but no deal can be negotiated. The player says he enjoys life at Carrow Road and he hopes to stay but he also revealed that other clubs have shown interest in him and he didn't try to deny that he was interested in these clubs too. It is suspected that these clubs are from his homeland, Denmark.

Nigel Worthington assured supporters that talks are still on going between the club and the reliable Dane and Worthy hopes he can persuade the classy utility player to put pen to paper very soon.

Healy Back On Loan Until End Of Season

13 March, 2003

Norwich today announced that they have agreed a deal with Preston for the services of striker David Healy on loan for the rest of the season. He was only here a few weeks ago, scoring one goal in five games and he impressed the Norwich manager Nigel Worthington so much that he has been called back for another stint.

Worthy said he was delighted with the capture and also hinted that he may try and sign him permanently at the end of the season.

Reserves Round-Up

12 March, 2003

By Nick Wright

A very young looking Norwich second string took to the pitch on Wednesday, with only four players with first team experience taking to the pitch, Henderson, Briggs, Heckingbottom as well as the return of Notman. There being a first team fixture on the same day robbed Keith Webb the services of like of David Nielsen, Jason Shackell and Darel Russell. Ryan Jarvis also was unavailable as he was selected for the England Under 17 team for the match against the Czech Republic. The very young Norwich side, which included the unknown David Tyrie, were up against a Luton team, which included ex City player Adrian Forbes.

It didn’t take long for Norwich to open the scoring. After 10 minutes the Hatters keeper kicked a poor clearance, which fell kindly for Ian Henderson. The 18 year old then lobbed the keeper from 25 yards. Throughout the first half, Henderson and new strike partner Danny Crow were causing problems for the home defence. In the 25th minute, Crow then added the second goal for Norwich. Henderson poked a through ball to Crow, who promptly rounded the keeper. City looked to be cruising, but just before the break Luton pulled a goal back.

Early in the second half Luton then equalised. This was a blow to young keeper Aaron Osbourne who had pulled off a number of good saves to deny the Luton strikers. The 75th minute saw the introduction of Alex Notman. The pint-sized Scot hadn’t played since being stretchered off in the derby game with Ipswich way back in September. He has just recovered from his injury and is now on the comeback trail. Keith Webb said, “ It is now just a matter for Alex to go through the motions”. One thing is for certain; he won’t be knocking on the first team’s door for a month or two yet.

Of the other players who are pressing for a first team place, Henderson looked lively all match and was a constant thorn in the Hatters rearguard. Briggs and Heckingbottom though both looked very average and certainly didn’t look as though they deserved a first team place thus far. On the younger front, Crane and Tyrie looked good at the back. Crane in particular looked to be one to look for in the future.

Line Up

Osbourne, Briggs, Willis (Chick 60), Blackburn, Tyrie, Crane, Batt (Howell 82), Henderson, Crow, Heckingbottom, Smith (Notman 75).

Subs not used: Lee Barrett (GK)

Tonight's Half Time Scores

Norwich are playing at The Priestfield Stadium tonight against a very physical Gillingham side.

The Gills have has the best chances, one shot hit the post and Andy Hessenthaler also had a couple of headers which should have been directed better by him.

Towards the final seconds of the half, David Healy forced a good save out of the Gills keeper but he seemed to pull his hamstring in the process. It is very likely that David Nielsen will replace him in the second half.

Gillingham 0 Norwich 0

Norwich Team: Green, Kenton, Mackay, Fleming, Drury, Nedergaard, Sinclair, Easton, McVeigh, Roberts, Healy.

Owls Defender Bromby Signs On Loan

24 February, 2003

Nigel Worthington has been very busy today. As well as putting a bid in for David Healy he has also brought in young Owls' defender Leigh Bromby on a month's loan.

The 22-year-old has represented England at Youth level and Wednesday fans rate him as a hot prospect for the future. Recently, though, Bromby has not been getting any first team football at Sheffield Wednesday since the arrival of manager Chris Turner so Nigel Worthington agreed to take him on loan for one month.

He said: "Leigh's made a very promising start to his career at Wednesday but since Chris Turner took over he's found himself fourth or fifth choice.

"This move is about him having a chance to get some games under his belt. He's a very good defender."

City boss Nigel Worthington said: "Leigh's made a very promising start to his career at Wednesday but since Chris Turner took over he's found himself fourth or fifth choice.

"This move is about him having a chance to get some games under his belt. He's a very good defender."

Leigh Bromby is likely to make his debut for the Canaries tomorrow night in the away match against Gillingham but the big question is who will make way for him?

Worthy Makes Healy Offer

24 February, 2003

Nigel Worthington yesterday made a cash bid to Preston manager Craig Brown for David Healy, who is currently on loan at Norwich until the Ipswich match.

Worthington was very quick to state the offer made was cash only and no Norwich player will be swapped for him as part of the deal.

"David's come in here and impressed us," he said. "He's a very clever footballer. Myself, the chief executive and the player's agent sat down yesterday and put something together to offer Preston. "If it does happen it will be a straight cash deal."

Izzy Opens Account For Rovers On Debut

22 February, 2003

Chris Llewellyn, on loan to Bristol Rovers, scored on his debut today and what an important goal it was. Bristol Rovers, who were at home, were 1-0 down to Macclesfield after 70 odd minutes but in the 80th minute Canary youngster Llewellyn rescued a point for the strugglers of Division 3.

Pompey Match To Be Screened Live At Carrow Road

22 February, 2003

The Club have announced that they will be screening Norwich's away trip to Portsmouth on March 12 live at Carrow Road. The match is on Sky TV and if you wish to watch this match at Carrow Road then you must ring the ticket office now on 0870 4441902 or go to one of the box offices to buy your tickets.

Doors open at 6.45pm for a 7.45pm kick-off and the match will be screened in the Russell Allison Lounge.

Llewellyn Loaned Out To Division Three Strugglers

21 February, 2003

Out-of-favour Norwich winger Chris Llewellyn was today loaned out to Division Three relegation candidates Bristol Rovers for one month. He has found it hard to establish himself in the City first eleven after breaking his foot against Manchester City last season and the form of Paul McVeigh and Clint Easton (last season) has kept his appearances at Carrow Road very limited.

Norwich boss Nigel Worthington explained: "The move is purely designed to help the lad get some games under his belt."

Rovers boss Ray Graydon was delighted with the signing of City's "Izzy": "Llewellyn is a slim 6ft 1 inch lad who can play up the middle or on either wing."

Llewellyn has made a total of 113 starts, with 45 substitute appearances, scoring 18 goals in his City career.

Worthy Still Hunting For Loan Signings

20 February, 2003

Norwich boss Nigel Worthington today said that he is still looking to make a loan signing or two to bolster his squad for the final promotion push.

"We're still looking at loan signings in every position - defence, midfield and attack.

"We've made about six enquiries but for one reason or another the clubs have not been able to release the players at this time so we are still looking."

It was also announced that the injury doubts ahead of Saturday's match at Bramall Lane were Phil Mulryne; who was substituted at Southampton after getting a knee in the back, and David Nielsen who has a toe infection. Darren Kenton and Mark Rivers are both fit after playing for the reserves yesterday and so they are back in contention. On loan striker David Healy is also back after being cup-tied for last week's match.

Reserves Beat Cambridge

19 February, 2003

Reserves Round-Up

By Nick Wright

City boss Nigel Worthington was given a boost yesterday when both Darren Kenton and Mark Rivers played impressive roles in the 2-1 reserve win at the Abbey Stadium. Both look certain to be recalled to the squad at least on Saturday against Sheffield United.

Goals from Chris Llewellyn and Dean Sinclair proved to be enough to gain all three points in the clash with Cambridge. A strong Norwich side attacked right from the kick off and this continued all first half. Reserve team boss, Keith Webb said, “We were unlucky not to go in at half time 6-0 up!”. Instead the team only went in 1-0 up, courtesy of a goal from Llewellyn. On the 43rd minute Clint Easton put through the Welshman who sent in an angled shot which clipped the post before going in. City had come close before though, Abbey (back on his old ground) had had a shot superbly saved by Cambridge keeper Martin Brennan and Henderson and Llewellyn had also come close.

The second half saw some substitutions from Norwich that really broke up the play, City failed to recapture the flowing first half. However City did extend their lead in the 64th minute with a goal from youngster Dean Sinclair. He latched onto a pass from Henderson and kept his cool to slip the ball under the advancing keeper. The hosts did pull a goal back in the 73rd minute with a goal from Owen Paynter, but this goal didn’t signal the start of pressure from the U’s and the game fell away from there.

Both Kenton and Rivers looked sharp and ready for a first team recall on Saturday after their injuries. Both Zema Abbey and Chris Llewellyn looked dangerous around the box, but this level is of course a long way off first team football. Of the younger players, Jason Shackell was a rock at the centre of defence and showed us glimpses of why he has been given a professional contract. At the other end of the pitch Ian Henderson also looked lively and up for it.

Line Up

Crichton, Briggs, Heckingbottom, Sinclair, Kenton (Crane 45), Shackell, Rivers (Batt 63), Henderson, Abbey (Crow 55), Easton, Llewellyn.

Subs not used: Osborne (GK)

FA Cup Round Six

17 February, 2003

If Norwich had beaten the Saints in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday then they would be facing first division Wolves in the quarter finals. Below is the full draw:

Watford v Fulham/Burnley

Sheffield United v Leeds United

Southampton v Wolves

Arsenal v Chelsea

Matches to be played over the weekend 8/9 March 2003.

Malky And Steeno Likely To Miss Derby Match

17 February, 2003

It is almost certain that Malky Mackay will miss the Canaries match versus Ipswich at Carrow Road on March 2 after he got sent off in the second half of the Southampton game on Saturday for picking up two bookings.

Utility player Steen Nedergaard is also likely to miss this match after he picked up his fifth booking on Saturday. The Dane has only just come back from injury and he and big Malky will certainly be missed by the team when they play Ipswich.

Ipswich striker, Pablo Counago will also miss the derby clash after being sent off against Sheffield United a couple of weeks ago.

Worthy Pleased Eventhough Canaries Lose

16 February, 2003

City boss Nigel Worthington was quick to praise his battling team despite crashing out of the FA Cup 2-0 at Southampton.

"It turned on us hitting the post," he said. "We've matched them for 70 minutes but two errors cost us dearly and that's the difference between the Premiership and the Nationwide.

"I'm delighted with our performance. It can be a cruel game but we can take a lot of plusses. We played some good football and created some good chances.

"The players have done themselves no harm. I told them to go and measure themselves against Premiership players and they've showed they can cope with the pressure. They now need to build on this."

Worthington had a final word for City's 4,300 travelling fans. "The support today was terrific," he said. "They sang throughout the game and that's much appreciated."

Southampton manager Gordon Strachan added: "It was 50/50 in the first half. Norwich's good players played well. They hit the post and suddenly we were thinking we could be out of the cup.

"If they keep hold of the good players they've got, they have a chance of doing well. But they must keep hold of them."
