Algarve Review

The PA announcer at the ground. Seeing John Lundstram play his last game for the club. Popping out for a quiet beer at midday and not getting back till gone midnight and spending time just watching the world go by with wonderful people. We’ll all have different memories of our time in Portugal.

Everyone who came along to the events that fans organised proved what a special group of fans we have.

Kath Faulkner failed to defend the title she won in Benalmadena, as the mini-golf tournament was won by Perry Trafford. I hope the club make sure there’s a mini-golf course close to next year’s venue for the pre-season tour.

Despite a couple of teams dropping out at the last minute, mainly due to team members being lost somewhere on the strip the night before, the 5-a-side football was well supported. Marston Saints won the tournament beating SCC in the final after a penalty shoot out.

After the 5-a-side, and a well earned beer or two, fans put their minds to the test with the football quiz, won by Pass Adama, beating the Fence End into second place.

Fans raised over £400 during the week, which will be split between Helen & Douglas House in the UK and a charity helping victims of the fires in Portugal which have claimed the lives of more than 60 people.

Thanks must go to everyone who came along and took part, and all those that organised or helped at these events especially Mitch East and Sammy for the quiz, Kath and Liam Faulkner, and Tim Walker for always being prepared to muck in and help when it looked like I was getting stressed, and referees Joseph Foot, David Underwood and Mitch East. If I’ve missed anyone who deserved thanks, please forgive me, the week disappeared into a blur of SuperBock and Gin & Tonic.

Cheers, and see you all next year.
